I love getting catalogs, and one of my favorites is the Pyramid Collection. So a little while back, I came home and was delighted to see that I had a new catalog. The cover bothered me. It said Goddess Sizing at No Extra Charge. By goddess sizing, they meant plus sizing. Since this is a blog post and not all readers know me, I am now well into what my doctor’s chart refers to as obese. I am a size 16, which is very close to “goddess size.” This is not a disagreement with Pyramid Collection for their attempt to fairly price women’s clothing regardless of size. Nor it is an attempt to make women conform to obscene standards that often qualify as starving under the World Health Organization. It just got me thinking. “Goddess” and “sizing” in the same phrase. What size would the goddess want me to be? I have to say it is not Supermodel size nor is it plus sizing. We all know that too much weight is not good for our health. It is hard on our hearts, joints, and internal organs. Eating healthy food and exercising is good for our bodies and mental health.
As a Wiccan woman, one goal is that in a circle I will be able to be the body that houses the Goddess. Part of our faith is that the Goddess resides in us always.
Then came the thought of the Rede. “In that it harm none, do what you will.” I am part of those who I am not to harm. My weakness for anything with high fructose corn syrup and every other form of “-ose” is harming me. It is not good for me. The Goddess would want more for me. Don’t I owe it to myself and my respect of the gift of life I was given to care for the body that houses me?
Next, came the thought of “Know Thyself.” Those wonderful words from the Temple of Apollo at Delphi. If I keep private about what I do, I WILL cheat. I will just keep wondering why I continue to be obese while sneaking Little Debbies on the way home from work. So I am going to use the forums to keep me honest. If I cheat I will post it. If I follow a healthy diet, I will post that too. Any others that care to join me are welcome. Those sadists out there are welcome to watch the carnage.

Ok, so I am more than 1/2 way through day one. My darling son (age 6) keeps asking for a trip to the ice cream store and trying to feed me popcicles. I have held out so far. I did not eat the chips my husband has been munching all day. I did take out a small bag of the rice cake chips. Apparently, I have to put those into a container of what I plan to eat.

“Goddess sizing”,lol, too cute. Size 16? You petite little thang.lol. I am a 22. Quit smoking about 5 months ago with that new drug Chantix, and now hubby and I both are doing the low carb lifestyle. Not a diet, lifestyle. My blood pressure has steadily gone down since I began and I fancy going off my meds in another few months.I also had serious acid reflux and lived on daily doses of Pepcid AC, and now I haven't taken those in months, even though I eat spicy food. It wasn't the spicy food, but the carbs causing my stomach to over produce the acid.I have lost 40 lbs FOREVER and and 90 more to go.
You can do this. The biggest obstacle is fear. Fear of change, fear of what my life will be like when I don't have any more excuses to sit out.
I just decided to stop just getting older, sicker and fatter, and just get older a bit more gracefully, lol. I haven't started an exercise program until my blood pressure was in the manageable range, which it now is.The 40 lbs came off without it, just by cutting out carbs, and that doesn't just mean all the “oses”, but anything your body turns into sugar, like corn, carrots, potatoes and of course pasta, flour and bread. This sounds drastic, but it really isn't. You simply eat alot of grilled, baked or broiled meats, many highly spiced or marinated, and lots of fresh veggies whether steamed, or salads. You can't have milk, but you can have cream. No margarine, only REAL butter, and no Miracle Whip, only Real mayonaisse. If you think about it, you are really just choosing things that are as close to nature as you can.You can have some fruits, like berries, and sugarfree puddings, made with cream instead milk, etc. You'll get real creative and discover that you really just don't miss the sugar in your diet or your bloodstream, lol.
You can eat all the almonds, and most other nuts you want, beef jerky and summer sausage, pickles, olives, cheeses, and salsa.
We made awesome burnt cheese tacos by just laying down a layer of shredded cheddar in a hot pan, letting it burn, flipping it, then puling it out and shaping it into a shell on our plate with the spatula. We served these in the restaurant to other low carb eaters and they were a huge hit, along with the fajitas with either low carb tortillas, or served on large pepper squares.
I do go on,lol, but I just want you to see that you won't be missing much by doing it, and there are a whole army of us low carbers out here to share recipes and hope with.
Talk to your doctor about it? Mine is very supportive. He says even though it sounds crazy, he has to go by the results he has seen in his patients, and all of us have better cholesterol and blood pressure readings, diabetics are able to go off their drugs, and anytime one can lose the weight that caused the problems to begin with, it's a good thing. You need a good multivitamin and some folks need a potassium supplement.
Whichever system you go with I will be sending you support.
And to part with, I will gift you a visualization spell that never fails:
You have in your minds eye a magician's tophat. Inside that hat is all the willpower, strength and stamina you need to get thru the next hour, the next 5 minutes or the immediate craving. It is never empty, it is a MAGICAL being. Just keep reaching in and grabbing more and feel it empowering you until the need passes. Don't forget to thank the being that holds it and keeps it full for you, because it will always be there waiting whenever you call it.
And now off to watch some very droning tutorials on Dreamweaver,ZZZZZZzzzzzz.

I'm game for joining you Cricket.
I currently weigh 255 lbs. On Jan 1st 2008, I weighed in at 273 lbs. For the next two months I hope to lose alot of weight with a very strict regimine and lots of exercise.
I know what its like to try to lose weight. What I am doing is I have switched from 3 large meals to 6 small meals. I am also trying to eat as organic as possible. Organic in the way it is grown and as natural as I can to mother nature as possible. I am eliminating the processed foods and trying to eat them as close to its natural state as possible. I have never been a sweet eater, but when I do get a craving for them, its a pretty bad one!
I can say, I agree with the other lady, I am afraid of changing. These past few months I have kept a food journal and I also write about how I am feeling whenever I eat…what I am doing at the time, time of day it is, what the weather is like, everything I possibly can to see the connection I have to food. I have learned that I self-sabatage myself all the time. Using a journal was/is a real eye opener for me. The biggest thing I have a hard time with is sweet tea. I have a hard time giving up sugar.
Good luck to you trying to live a healthier life!
Crystal

Even though I tease I am joining you as well. Changing how you eat is not as bad when everyone in the house follows you.

@Crystal a food journal is a great idea. I am going to hop on that bandwagon and write down all the crud I shove in my face.

I forgot to add…
Kudos to Pyramid for not charging more money for that extra bit of material for their “Goddess sizes”. Most companies do charge for the larger sizes.
And also I read somewhere that Marylin Monroe wore a size 14….and I know many men that ”worshiped” her. LOL

I will join too! Since I work in the school system I have the summer off and all I have been doing is snacking, snacking, snacking (not healthy snacks either)! So I will also post when I am doing well and when I am doing bad. I'm also going to do a food journal too. That sounds like it is a very helpful tool. I know when I get bored I tend to snack. I try to buy healthy snacks but my son (9 yrs old) and husband constantly say “there's nothing good to snack on” so I end up buying the processed snacks (little debbies, cosmic brownies, chips, etc). So I will try to “convert” my family into HEALTHY eaters. I don't know how successful it will be but I will try. I also want to honor the goddess in me by treating my body like a temple not a trash bag! Good luck to everyone who is jumping on this crazy bus!

How's everyone doin so far? I have found one of my issues being the dreaded BREAKFAST! I just do not feel like eating until I've been up for a few hours at least. I have always been a coffee and cigs for breakfast girl, and now it's just lots of coffee. I have a few important meds and vitamin supplements I need to take in the a.m., which are real energy boosters too, but if I take on an empty stomach……I turn into a green hued hag. I been trying to keep a bowl of hard boiled eggs handy and some strawberries and hard cheeses all sliced and ready. I ain't cookin nuth in the mornin!

Breakfast was one of my problem areas too.
Hello, my name is Crystal and I am a McDonald's addict. At least I used to be. You know its sad when you pull in to the drive thru's intercom screen and instead of saying “Welcome….”, they say “Hi Crystal, the usual this morning?” That for me was an eye opener. That is also when I knew I needed to stop going there! LOL
Now my breakfasts range from a day to day basis and I stay clear of the golden arches! My typical menus for breakfast now are:
1. Slice of Toast or bagel with peanut butter
2. Hard boil egg and pkg of instant oatmeal
3. bowl of good ol' cheerios with 1 banana sliced.
4. my version of the Egg McMuffin: 1 microwaved egg (I got this container from tupperware that cooks it to almost the same size) I throw some precooked bacon bits in it before cooking. then I put it on toast with a slice of cheese. Alot healthier than the other version. I know that nuking it is still bad, but I am not big on cooking in the morning either. It only takes a few minutes to prepare and only one minute to cook.

Going to post for Cricket and myself. Cricket is working some long hours and is doing rather well. PBnJ yogurt and rice cake things for lunch. Small bowl of cereal for breakfast with coffee. Decent dinner as well. As for myself, well mornings are OK, toast and coffee, lunch is OK PBnJ with some summer sausage. Same dinner as Cricket. BUT my big downfall is when everyone goes to bed I get some serious munchies. So far I have done well today, but the night before was a total wash. Curse you cheese-its! We are planning a pizza party for our son this weekend. I don't see that going well either. Both of us love pizza. It is going to take some serious restraint especially with company over I tend to get nervous and that is when the brain tries to compensate with food. Couple of things I have noticed, 1. if I am not in the kitchen I am OK, when I just go in there for some water I find myself scrounging the cupboards. 2. I really don't feel like eating until 2 cups of coffee are down me.
I think things will go better for both of us once the little one is in school, he has a tendency to want the snack and that means we have to get them for him from the kitchen. I try to limit what he eats as well but a 6 year old will only get what he wants when he wants. I started trying to loose my flab at 248lbs. I am down to 235 now, I would love to be 200. I am amazed at how much food I eat in a day, or at least how much food I stop my self from eating in a day. Cheers to all who are trying.

Well, thanks to “Admin” for posting for me. I have done very well. I have been focusing on eating when hungry and then not eating everything infront of me. Right now I am focusing on my bad habits. Stress eating and bordem eating. Eating does not get rid of my stress, it just adds to it in about 10 minutes when I realize all I have just eaten for no reason. I did pretty good this week with that. I stopped myself on the way to the vending machine more than once. The lady that sits by the machine must think I am insane. (She is a little annoying and needy so I don't much care what she thinks of me.) This weekend was BAD. Our son invited a ton of people to his birthday, which was to be for family only. I then had no idea how much food to buy. I was nervous that we would not have enough, so WAY over bought. Now we had to finish off pizza and cheesecake all weekend. I will not even discuss the chive cream cheese spread….At least there was salad.

Still sitting at 235, no gain, no loss. Given the weekend that we had over here I am calling that a win for the week.

Still sitting at about the same weight. School starts next week that will help because I can actually get some treadmill time in without the lil guy wanting to hop on the thing. I also found this hundred push-up challenge Both Cricket and I are going to give it a shot. How is everyone else doing?

Lost another 5 lbs. but it's very slow going. Truth is I need to get up from this computer chair where I think I may have begun a taproot sprouting out my A$$ and get out in the woods and on the river before the cold season comes full force. I just have so much I am trying to accomplish here, urggghh!!
On the positive front, I have not overeaten or cheated, because I have been too busy to go shopping, so there ain't nuthing to eat here, lol!

Oh my goddess! I sooo suck at posting things! I have been doing o.k. but my downfall is energy drinks! I work 3 jobs so I usually drink 2 energy drinks a day and with the sugar content it gets ridiculous. I have been drinking the sugar free but it's not the same. I admit it I AM A SUGAR ADDICT! but I'm trying to work on it. I need to drink some coffee for the caffeine but my husband can't stand the smell of it in our house so it's kinda hard to start the day off with a good cup of coffee. I really haven't been snacking to badly. We got this HUGE watermelon so I've been trying to snack on that instead of chips and I haven't bought any either so that really helps.
